Advance wars 2 rom versions1/31/2024 ![]() So no, unlike python, you can't get the source code of an already compiled program that easy (unless, of course, the developer releases the source as with many DOS-era games) The code was written in some language and then it was compiled (Probably ASM or C). Writing small python programs is generally better for other things like generating data structures, manipulating graphics and other data. If you're wanting to write your own code, though, I'd advise you to look up using an ARM assembler to write assembly and compile it (See ARMips for one of the best ones). GBA Roms are just binary blobs, you can manipulate them fairly easily. Side note, I'm planning on learning Python and was wondering if I can apply Python programming to edit the rom. Not to say it can't be done (because it can, as evidenced with plenty of simpler NES/GB games like Super Mario Bros 3, Sonic The Hedgehog and Pokémon Red which have complete disassemblies), it's just not an easy process. I've been doing bits and pieces (for my own amusement) to make romhacks and documenting things as I go, but I've been working on stuff on and off for AW2 since 2004. What you need to do is interpret the compiled ARM assembly binary, document it, write equivalent functions in whatever language you're using (Python in your case) and then arrange it into a complete set of source code. I'm gonna try to learn from it and maybe make my own spin off version of the game. I'm planning on extracting the source code of Advance Wars 2. ![]() Nintendo's Advance Wars series includes: Year Content related to banned users will be removed at moderator discretionįor more details on the subreddit rules, see the Rules Page.New/Low Karma reddit user posts will be screened as an anti-spamming measure.Submissions must be related to Advance Wars. The game was released to critical acclaim and has been listed among the greatest video games of all time. This is a subreddit dedicated to discussing everything Advance Wars related including the games, maps, strategy, art, custom designs, and more.Ĭheck out the Wiki for subreddit rules other useful information! The conflict enters a new stage when an Orange Star commanding officer named Andy is accused of attacking the armies of two other nations, Yellow Comet and Green Earth, without reason, resulting in a worldwide war. The story takes place on a fictional continent, where two nations, Orange Star and Blue Moon, have been fighting each other for years. Designer Kentaro Nishimura commented that the game’s success shifted Nintendo’s attitude over Western tastes, and that same success is frequently credited as a driving force for Nintendo bringing another Intelligent Systems franchise, Fire Emblem, outside of Japan beginning with the seventh installment. In order to alleviate this, the developers made the mechanics of Advance Wars easy to understand, adding in an in-depth tutorial that did not require players to read the manual. The game was not originally intended for release outside Japan, like the previous entries in the series, which were released in Japan only due to Nintendo feeling that Western consumers would not be interested in turn-based games because of their complex mechanics. It is the first Wars game to be released outside Japan, as well as the first Wars game to not be released initially in Japan. It is the seventh game in the Wars video game series. Although the game was released in Europe in January 2002, neither it nor its sequel Black Hole Rising were released in Japan until the Game Boy Wars Advance 1+2 compilation in 2004. The game’s release in Japan and Europe was delayed, supposedly due to the September 11 attacks in the United States. It was released in North America on September 10, 2001. Advance Wars is a turn-based strategy video game developed by Intelligent Systems and published by Nintendo for the Game Boy Advance.
